Expert Consultation: Strengthening WHO Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) programme to enhance patient and family engagement for the provision of safer health care. 5-6 February 2019, Lisbon, Portugal
In February 5th – 6th, 2019, Regina Mariam Namata Kamoga, Executive Director of CHAIN and a patient safety champion, participated in an Expert consultation to strengthen WHO Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) programme in Lisbon, Portugal.
This expert consultation was organized by WHO to gather inputs from experts and PFPS Champions on developing strategic approaches and priority interventions to align the Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) programme to the GPW 13 (WHO’s 13th General Programme of Work) and prioritize the activities contributing to strengthen the programme including achieving universal health coverage. During the consultation, the expert group discussed on what has been achieved in the past, built on previous gains, what has not been achieved or needs to be strengthened, deliberated on different perspectives, shared views, and agreed on further steps, aligned with PFPS programme. The expert consultation also introduced and discussed the draft WHO Patient and Family Engagement Framework. The input from key international experts will aid in defining a new global vision, strategic directions, priority interventions and deliverables at international, national and local level for enhancing patient and family engagement in the provision of safer health services and improved patient safety which also enables countries to achieve universal health coverage.
